Review Summary
|
 |
Bontril is a prescription-based weight loss drug. In other words, before taking it, one needs to see a doctor first and continue to have regular consultations as medical supervision is required. For this reason we cannot readily recommend it.
Prescription-based options such as Bontril are not bad, however we are concerned that some users might experience unpleasant side effects.

Ingredients at a Glance

Bontril is the brand name of a drug called Phendimetrazine which was originally formulated to be a weight medication. It is similar to an amphetamine in chemical composition. This drug works by stimulating the central nervous system (nerves and brain). When this happens the heart rate and blood pressure increases.
Bontril cannot be used for an extended period of time because it is habit forming. It is prescribed to supplement a serious diet and exercise weight loss program. Users can become physically and psychologically dependent on this drug and may also experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop using it. If you intend to take this medication, it is also very important to discuss with your doctor how you can gradually stop. Its side effects include: allergic reaction, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, very high blood pressure and abnormal behavior. Our research shows that weight lost from the use of Bontril is usually regained within a short period of time after a dieter stops taking it.
* Bontril products do not contain the effective new appetite suppressant Hoodia.

Website in Focus
|
|
We strongly advise people who are thinking about purchasing drugs via the internet to practice common sense and closely scrutinize the internet pharmacy they intend to buy from. In our opinion, an online pharmacy should provide a physical address and a real and easily accessible telephone number.
Many web-based pharmaceutical companies claim to place great importance on customer inquiries but in truth their customer service department is really just focused on making sales. A large number of spam emails that make their way into people’s inboxes claim to be selling real medications. Selling prescription medications without prescriptions and without requiring a visit to the doctor, is not in compliance with the requirements of the Federal Controlled Substances Act. Watch out for websites that operate in this way.
Apparently people who engage in this type of operation want customers to think that the website is affiliated with a doctor or a medical company.

Phendimetrazine tartrate, as the dextro isomer, has the chemical name of (+)-3,4-Dimethyl-2-phenylmorpholine Tartrate. The structural formula is as follows:
Phendimetrazine tartrate is a white, odorless powder which is bitter in taste. It is soluble in water, ethanol, and methanol.
Bontril Slow-Release capsules which contain FD&C Yellow No. 6 as a color additive.
Phendimetrazine tartrate is a sympathomimetic amine with pharmacological activity similar amphetamines, the prototype drugs of this class used in obesity. Actions include increasing of blood pressure and stimulation of the nervous system. Tachyphylaxis and tolerance have been demonstrated with all drugs of this class in which these phenomena have been looked for.
Drugs of this type which are used to cure obesity are commonly known as "anorexigenics” or “anorectics". It has not been established whether the action of such drugs in the treatment of obesity is strictly limited to appetite suppression. There is a possibility that they can trigger metabolic effects and other reactions in the central nervous system.

Final Thoughts
|
|
The web is full of sites selling pharmaceutical products. These sites would usually advice customers to undergo a complete physical first before taking the new drug. They then would ask the customer to waive the requirement for a physical and agree to have a physical after taking the drug they purchased from the site. Confused? We are too. And it sounds fishy as well. Note that an established good doctor-to-patient relationship cannot be legally substituted with an “after the fact physical”.
Whether prescribed by a doctor or not, the Bontril formulation just has too many harmful side effects to recommend to consumers. Because it does not contain Hoodia, it is an incomplete weight loss formulation. A complete product should contain an active modern appetite suppressant. Most effective weight loss products combine ingredients that burn fat and curb the appetite. Unfortunately, the developers of the Bontril formulation failed to do this.
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND BONTRIL BECAUSE OF ITS UNDESIRABLE SIDE EFFECTS
