It does this by specifically pointing out the lies and the truths that manufacturers say about their products. Are prescription weight loss supplements for you?
Prescription drugs are basically for very obese people or for those who have specific needs that cannot be met by over-the-counter weight loss supplements. These drugs have been tested and approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are more potent than over-the-counter products. Majority of the people who have taken prescription weight loss drugs report that they have lost as much as much as 10% of their weight. People with healthy body mass indexes may also take these weight loss drugs as long as they are cleared by their doctors to take them.

Over-the-counter weight loss supplements can actually be more dangerous than prescription drugs as their use is not regulated. There are people who might misuse them and end up being sick. Using a variety of such supplements alongside each other in an attempt to speed up the weight loss process for instance, may overwork the system. When this happens, the body becomes weaker and is unable to defend itself against threats that may destroy it.
Unproven claims
Just because a supplement is labelled “herbal” or “natural” means it’s healthy and safe. There are many herbal ingredients that cause severe side-effects. Ephedra for one, an extract taken from the Chinese herb Ma Huang, is considered a highly dangerous substance. It has been linked to heart attacks and strokes, just to name a few. To protect yourself, always read the ingredients of any formula that you plan to take. If a product doesn’t have an ingredient list, don’t even consider it.
Protection
Before you buy any weight loss supplement, do some research. Check if any product reviews have been done on it. These articles will give you a pretty good idea about what others think about the product as well as what it contains and how it’s supposed to work. Be wary of products that describe themselves with words such as “miraculous”, “secret”, “exotic”, “breakthrough” and “guaranteed”.
